Von einem Luftschiff wieder zu einem herkömmlichen Schiff, allerdings eines, das gekentert im Hafen von New York lag. Ich habe dieses Bild in einer leider unkommentierten Fotogallerie von New York entdeckt.
Weil es sich um ein sehr beeindruckendes Bild handelt, habe ich versucht, mehr über das Schiff zu erfahren. Vermutlich handelt es sich um die "Normandie", ein französisches Passagierschiff, welches am 09.02.1942 bei Umbauarbeiten im Hafen von Brooklyn in Brand geriet und durch die großen Mengen an Löschwasser ins Kentern geriet. Dort lag sie eineinhalb Jahre im Schlick der Piers und wurde schließlich im Oktober 1947 entgültig verschrottet.

Es ist tatsächlich das einstige Passagierschiff "Normandie", die zum Zeitpunkt des Brandes jedoch schon "Lafayette" hieß und von der US-Marine in einen Truppentransporter umgebaut werden sollte. Mit seiner Länge von 313 Metern war es seinerzeit das größte Schiff, das bis dahin gebaut worden ist
